My Minimalism Journal | Blogmas 2021

I have officially been using a minimalism journal for a whole year! I had a couple of reasons to start one. One reason being my 2021 pledge to "use everything up." I received a notebook as part of a mystery box I believe, and did intend on giving it to Charlie but at the time he really wasn't interested in notebooks or drawing or writing. So I kept it for myself and decided to start a minimalism journal.

Usually, I would use my Evernote app to keep track of what I was getting rid of but it was such a pain trying to update it on my phone, especially if I was charging it. So I decided to use good old fashioned pen and paper.

I almost used it like a bullet journal/manifestation journal duo. I started the notebook with my minimalism goals for the year and a nice minimalist quote: "A home with fewer possessions is more spacious, more calming, and more focused on the people who live inside it."

I even have a section named Things I Shouldn't Need to Buy for 12 Months (at least). I listed body moisturiser, bags, art prints, notebooks, books, candles or wax melts. To be fair, I haven't bought bags or art prints this year...

I also wrote in it like it was a proper journal, with the intention of using it to help me write more minimalist blog posts but I just didn't really write any this year.

Now, who wants to know how many items (roughly) I have got rid of one way or another this year? Ready? 2,500. Including photos and videos from my phone storage and unfollowing people during a digital declutter. I am absolutely blown away. I had no idea it would be that many! I still have more decluttering to do before Christmas so it will be closer to 3,000 by the end of 2021!

I'm so glad I decided to keep a minimalism journal this year and I definitely intend on doing one for next year too!

Do you keep track of how much you declutter over the year? Would you have a minimalism journal?

Until tomorrow,
Saph x

  3. While I'm a huge fan of digital notetaking, there is something to be said about the feel of pen and paper. I keep coming back to that for tracking, to-do lists, etc.
