My Spending Ban Rules

Full credit goes to Linda Roche for the inspiration behind this blog post!

As you may know, I am working on my minimalism journey again in 2021, and part of that journey is to curb my unnecessary spending. Admittedly it's been harder than I imagined so far, as I have already spent just under £50 - not including what I have spent on necessary items. Oops.

Things I Can Buy

* Food & drink from the corner shop - as long as it's not in excess (e.g. every day)

* Birthday presents

* Clothes - within reason! E.g. I'm planning on losing lots of weight this year so if clothes like jeans get too big for me, I will need to replace them!

Things I Can't Buy

* Random gifts - hard as my love language is gift giving but sometimes I go totally overboard!

* Stationery - supporting small businesses is my weakness and so many of them make such pretty stationery and stickers.

* Toys - Charlie does not need any more toys between now and his birthday

* Books - at least until I've read most of the ones I have!

* Makeup - unless my mascara dries up or my eyeliner runs out

* Hair dye - I'm happy with my colour as it is. If I change my mind I have a box of dye I can use already!

If I can stick to my spending ban, I should be able to pay off what I owe my sister within a few months, and potentially reach my savings goal by the end of the year! Although I'm expecting to reach maybe half of that, realistically. So far I have matched every unnecessary expenditure, and put the same amount into my savings account too! Plus a little extra as I've rounded up.

I saw this brilliant post on Pinterest and have decided that's what I'm going to do from now on too. It should stop me excessively spending, and maybe I'll put the money I want to spend into my savings account instead of spending it on something I don't need.

Have you ever been on a spending ban? How did it go?

Until next time,
Saph x

  1. I love this, I was on a spending ban last year for saving up to get a house. It's really tough but it's worth it in the end. You're doing great, best of luck with your spending ban!

  2. This is something that I really should try. I don't spend on much, but I'll be honest - I spend WAY too much on hair dye and I have some options kicking around the house here that I really should use up first lol
