2018 Highlights

2018 was full of ups and downs - and it's not even over yet! It's certainly been a year of learning, love, loss and growth. Boy, am I glad to be at the end of it.

It started off pretty bittersweet, as it marked two years since my Dad passed away, and I spent the day getting a tattoo in his memory. Ironic really, as he hated tattoos but I love my little hedgie! I always look at it and smile, and I can't wait to add to it at some point.

In an attempt to get over my ex, I started dating again! It was a bit of a roller-coaster and it didn't really work but I enjoyed getting back out there, getting to know people and having some fun for myself! I don't think I'm going to bother with dating apps anymore but it was fun while it lasted.

When my sister and nieces moved in, my sister and I would often sit up with a glass - or two - of wine, watching The Handmaid's Tale and generally having a giggle. I miss those nights! They also brought a new man into my life - Mr Mouse! That chihuahua is an absolute pain in the arse but he's wonderful, and I barely stop myself from stealing him every time he comes to stay. I never thought I could love a chihuahua as much as I love little Mouse.

My sister moved in and my Mum moved out! This meant lots of mini holidays away in Sheppey, lots of sun, fresh air and exercise. I especially enjoyed taking Charlie swimming for the first time!

My lovely Gail came to visit twice this year! It's always a pleasure having my best friend come to stay, and I can't wait to see her again!

We celebrated Charlie's first birthday this year, and even though he was poorly, the party didn't go to plan and I made Gail cry (I'm still SO sorry!) it was lovely to mark his first birthday with everyone who means the world to me.

Shortly after his birthday, my beautiful boy finally took his first steps unaided! I was so happy to finally see it, and it still makes my heart swell now to see him walking - and even running! - around without any help!

September brought The Big Change. I decided to pack up and move my life to Sheppey. Well, for ten months of the year anyway. I'm sad that this is only a holiday home, but I'm so happy to have been given the chance to be somewhere else for a while.

The main highlight of 2018 is the sheer amount of independence I have gained. Yes okay so my Mum still very much has my back when I need her but I am very much full swing into this "adulting" lark I've heard so much about. I am officially a housewife without the husband. I also feel much more capable of going into town or just generally 'out' without anyone but Charlie to keep me company. I think I have only had one anxiety attack this whole year!

Christmas was absolutely wonderful, and I loved every minute of it. I haven't been able to enjoy it so much since Dad passed away, but this year was really special.

Although I would say that as a whole, 2018 has been absolutely pants for me, I have definitely had some wonderful moments to look back on and smile at, and it's those moments that keep us going. What was your favourite part of 2018?
