This year, I have decided to create a little savings pot on Monzo and make myself a goal of saving some money aside every time I read a book. I also aimed for one book a month so I'm not overloading myself and making myself broke trying to save some money! My aim was £10 for the first book of the month, then £1 per extra book read in the same month. So even if I read one book per month, I'll still have £120 in savings by the end of the year! Although I have been debating reducing the timeline on it, and using it for Christmas but I think I'd rather use it to either treat myself to something like a tattoo or a few piercings. We'll see what happens!
So far, it's going brilliantly! I've read eight books, and have £62 in savings. It should in theory be £63 however, the first book I read in June was a short story, so it didn't feel good enough to use £10 on. So in the same night I also read a "normal" size book and combined the two. What I've read:
1. The Midnight Hour, Eve Chase
I honestly can't remember if I enjoyed this book or not. I can't even see it on my bookshelf anymore, which means I've either let a friend borrow it, or I've donated it. I definitely remember it had some shocking elements to it but nothing about it is really standing out to me! It's got some good reviews though, so maybe I've just left it too long to review it...
2. The Wake-Up Call, Beth O'Leary
I do love a good enemies to lovers and this was perfect in every way. I still remember a lot of this book and have a little chuckle to myself over how silly the MC's were.
3. Forget Me Not, M.J. Arlidge
I loved this one! I do love a good whodunnit and the who was certainly shocking, although it is fairly obvious right from the start who the "who" is.
4. The Boyfriend, Frieda McFadden
This book was incredible! It's not very often that I can't figure out where a book is headed but wow, this one had me stumped. This is the first book I've read by Frieda McFadden but it definitely won't be the last!
5. The Perfect Match, Dandy Smith
Another one that shook me to the core and had me second guessing everything! It'a amazing how books can get under your skin like that.
6. Beach Hut 512, Dorothy Koomson
This one was the short story. It was pretty good but didn't have me as hooked as other books have. I just don't get on well with short stories I think, they always feel a bit rushed.
7. The Dead Ex, Jane Corry
Woweee, I forgot how much I love Jane Corry books! I smashed through this in a few hours and loved every page.
8. Tiny Daggers, Caroline Corcoran
Another entry from an author I hadn't heard of before! I chose this one from the Kindle Unlimited June First Reads and I really enjoyed it! Another one that I wasn't sure where it was headed but enjoyed every step.
Really happy with all I've managed to read so far, and I'm excited to see what else I can get through. Just counting down now until I can start my cozy Christmas reads! I'm also loving making use of my Kindle Unlimited subscription again, I realised recently I've been paying nearly £10 a month for it for a long time and not been using it! I've only been using the kindle app on my phone, rather than my actual kindle, but it's still nice to get use out of a subscription.
Have you read any of these books? Or like the sound of any of them? Let me know in the comments!
Until next time,
Saph x
