My Ostara Altar

I finally have an altar! Over the last ten years of studying Wicca, I have never had the space for an altar but this year I decided it was time to have one - even if it is just a mini one.

My altar is a very small white shelf just above my bed. It used to have Joshs tiny metal models on it but once we got some more shelving, I kicked them off and claimed that shelf as mine. I haven't fully decorated my shelf for a sabbat yet as I haven't had it long, but Ostara seemed the right time to do it for the first time!

Unfortunately I don't have any sage so I couldn't fully cleanse it, but I did invest in some Fabulosa disinfectant spray scented with sage and vanilla. Close enough, right? I cleaned my shelf with that and then began to decorate.

First I placed a long length of pink ribbon on the altar. I ended up having to tie it in a bow because I didn't want to cut it but I was worried about the cats or my child pulling it and pulling everything off my altar. Next I added my pentacle which used to be on a chain but it got broken at work. To say I was devastated is an understatement!

I then got my fake flowers, Luna Lovegood pop, a white tealight and my witches brew cauldron mug. Luna and my mug are permanent features on my altar. I also decided to finally open the lavender diffuser set I received for Christmas, and popped the diffuser bottle into the mug, so I have the lovely scent of lavender filling the room.

I also have a tiny broom which I received as a favour from my mum and stepdads wiccan wedding ceremony! It's so cute and fits perfectly on my altar, it will probably stay as a permanent feature throughout the sabbats.

Next it was time to pick the crystals I wanted on my altar. The relevant crystals for Ostara are amethyst, rose quartz, moonstone, rainbow moonstone and aquamarine. Unfortunately my crystal collection isn't huge and I can't remember what some of my crystals are but I'm pretty pleased with what I have on my altar.

I have my lovely chunky amethyst, rose quartz, what I believe is rainbow quartz, either jade or aquamarine - I really need to learn what I have, I used to know! - and finally citrine. The citrine was really calling out to me while I was picking out my crystals! Citrine is for building confidence, overcoming challenges and building mental toughness. Definitely sounds like what I need right now!

I do wish I'd given myself more time to get some egg or hare imagery to add to my Ostara altar and collected some real flowers for it but otherwise I'm really pleased with how it turned out!

Blessed be and happy Ostara!
