A Weekend Away

If you follow me on Twitter or read my latest post, you'll know that myself and Josh have been struggling lately. I especially, have been struggling. I've been stressed and exhausted and desperately needed to get away. So, on a complete whim, I booked myself, Josh and Charlie into a hotel room for the weekend.

I didn't even look at location or anything, I literally just booked the cheapest room I could find (although I definitely could have found cheaper) and packed our bags. Then I spent two days panicking that the hotel wasn't even open yet. I couldn't get through to the hotel at all, I was stressed. On check in day, Josh's stepdad very kindly drove Charlie and I to the hotel to find out. Thankfully it was, and we (me and Charlie!) had the room to ourselves for a couple of hours before Josh arrived.

Josh was still working you see, and I wanted to get there at the earliest check in time. If it wasn't open, I didn't want Josh packing his bag just to have to come home again. Plus extra alone time is always a bonus. The hotel I picked ended up being a service station one, so we were right next to a Costa, WH Smiths and McDonald's. Obviously we had Maccies for dinner that night!

The next day we didn't really know what to do with ourselves. It was rainy, so we didn't really fancy doing any of the walks nearby. Early afternoon I managed to convince Josh to go to town, and we spent a couple of hours there, which was nice. Josh went to HMV for the first time! I know, I was shocked too. I honestly didn't even know HMV was still going, I can't remember the last time I saw a HMV store. We ended up buying Charlie a couple of DVD's - Shrek and Monsters vs Aliens - and two Imagine Dragons CD's as Josh desperately needed new CD's for the car, and they were only £2.99 each!

Then we headed back to the hotel because Charlie was getting grumpy and tired. He wasn't the only one tbh, I was pretty tired myself! We spent the evening eating, getting mildly tipsy after a quick trip to Smith's, playing games and watching TV.

I honestly didn't want to leave on Sunday. I was so happy in our little bubble. The hotel room was lovely, it was really peaceful and quiet, I didn't get disturbed by anyone else at all through the night - honestly a novelty these days.

I definitely think we'll be staying here again. I'm already very eager to book another weekend. Charlie loved it too, he had a huge sofa bed all to himself and the people working here were so lovely to him! He showed all of them his toys and they all seemed to take a genuine interest in them.

I think if we stayed again, we'd bring more food, less DVD's (we packed 5 between us and didn't watch any of them) and more games. There's nothing more annoying than packing things that weren't used!

Until next time,
Saph x
