Beltane & Ways to Celebrate

It's nearly time for my second Sabbat celebration! Beltane - otherwise known as May Day - is typically celebrated from the evening of April 30th to the day of May 1st.

Beltane is celebrated because we're now at the peak of Spring, and will soon be welcoming Summer. Beltane represents sexuality, fertility and birth and the "eternal cycle of sacrifice and rebirth needed for the continuation of life."

Non-ritual ways to celebrate:

Spend time outside
Go for your government-approved hour walk or simply sit in the garden if you have one.

Pick and wear flowers
While on your walk, pick some flowers! Make daisy chains, flower crowns, or pin them on to your clothes. Wear your flowers, your way. I personally, will probably just wear a flowery top or dress. Bit of a cop out, I know but it's better than nothing!

Have a bonfire
Start the evening under the stars with a fire (safely!) roaring. Be sure to check the current guidelines on bonfires beforehand.

Be intimate
Beltane is a celebration of fertility after all! Now is the time to get sexy, either with a partner or on your own. Be safe, have fun!

Bake or Buy
Oat cookies, flapjacks, oat bread. Even porridge. Oats in all forms are great for Beltane. Also vanilla flavoured sweet treats and elderflower or other floral flavoured cordials.

Ostara was a great time for personal housekeeping. Beltane is a great time to reassess what gets us going. Answer these three questions in your journal or grimoire:
  1. What turns your heart on?
  2. How about your body and soul?
  3. What is it that you would like to continue manifesting this season?

This is a day for passion, growth and love of any and all kinds.

Until next time,
Saph x
