40 New Things in 40 Days | Days 15-22

You may have noticed by now that I'm attempting to do 40 new things in 40 days - or at least, do more of what I enjoy!

Day 15: An Early Night
I failed the night before but I actually got an early night this night! I was absolutely shattered so I was in bed with my phone off around 9:45pm. It was a bloody long night though, I felt like I was up a lot, and not even because of Charlie. He actually slept quite well!

Day 16: Cream Tea
I'd already made plans to go to The Range with my sister to have a look at some furniture and stuff for when her and the kids move in. Mum ended up joining us and we had quite a nice afternoon, and Vicky even ended up treating us to a cream tea while we were there.

Day 17: Family BBQ & Wedge Sandals
Sun's out; barbecue's out! My sister and brother in law host at least one barbecue per year and this time we invited our aunt and cousins from our Dads side of the family. We barely see them so it was a good excuse for a get together. Also, last Summer while I was heavily pregnant, Mum bought me a beautiful pair of wedge sandals. I never got the chance to wear them, so I broke them out specially for the barbe. I LOVED them, and now I plan on wearing them as much as possible this Spring/Summer. I honestly can't walk very well in heels, but I plan on getting lots of practice in with these.

Day 18: Decluttered the Living Room
The living room was chocka with Charlie's toys and all sorts of bits and bobs, so while Mum entertained him for me (he was being SO difficult this day) I cleared out some of the crap. I even ended up throwing away some of his toys, as they weren't in great condition anymore! I even hoovered, using Mum's brand new hoover. So much adulting this day.

Day 19: Redecorated
I moved into my current bedroom about 4 Summers ago. I chose a classic black and white colour theme, with a dark purple feature wall. The last month or so, I've been wanting to change it up a bit. I'm less of a goth-y witch now, and more of a pastel pink princess. Which is genuinely something I never expected to say. I have already changed my bedroom furniture, from monochrome to cream and brass, and had plans to change the purple to pink. Well today, I finally got the paint out and pinked up. I love it! I worry it's a little more lilac than I would have liked (the pot literally says Pretty Pink but it's vaguely purple to me!) but I'm excited to make the change to a more feminine bedroom. I just worry it's going to end up looking childish! Not what I want at 22!

Day 20: New Hairstyle & Halfway Through the Challenge!
I haven't had my hair cut since last October, when I also had the blue put in. After about two weeks of thinking about how I want my hair, I finally booked in with the hairdresser. I was so excited, and nervous. I decided to not go for the major change that I wanted. Kind of. I got a full fringe put back in, but I got it cut a little shorter than I usually would. As for length, I had intended to get a good 3-4 inches cut off but I decided to stick with just 1 inch, as I'm wanting to grow my hair again. But the real big change is...I got an undercut! I really wanted a sidecut, but my thin patches of hair wouldn't allow for that (I can't even begin to explain) so I went for an undercut instead! I've literally been wanting to shave my hair for a good 6-7 years and I finally decided that this year I was going to do it. When better than during a New Things challenge?!

Day 21: New Shoes
I'm broke as hell (my savings account is making me cry right now) but I was in desperate need of shoes. I was literally down to one pair of Vans-style trainers, trainers that were falling apart, a pair of snow boots and 3 pairs of heels that I can't walk in/don't go with everything. So, I checked out the New Look sale, and about an hour later, I'd bought myself five pairs of much needed shoes. I was hoping to be able to send some back but nope. I love them all. They're all going to come in so handy for the Summer and they're so comfy. I hate that I spent so much money but I needed them desperately, and couldn't wait to get into town to find cheaper alternatives. I just hope they last me a long time; even in the sale they weren't that cheap! I also bought myself some blue jeans, as I was sick of only having black pairs to wear. I actually chose shoes I wouldn't have worn about a year ago! My sense of style has changed so much in the last year or so and I love it. I have ESPADRILLES?! I hated espadrilles when they first became fashionable but as soon as I spotted these ones, I knew I had to have them. Also, PINK SHOES. I love pink now, two years ago I did everything I could to avoid pink, but now I want everything pink.

Day 22: Meditate to Sleep
Once again, I tried to meditate myself to sleep. This time I got to use the Headspace app, and also the Calm app. Headspace was my favourite of the two, but I think I actually would have fallen asleep to Calm if 1. Charlie hadn't disturbed me and 2. the body scan hadn't made me realise I need a full body massage and that my entire body hurts. I just couldn't relax! Also there was so much tension in my forehead. Not great you guys, not great.

Eventually I found a section on Calm that sounded just like what I needed - 'Progressive Muscle Relaxation for Sleep'. Perfect. I stuck it on for 30 minutes and tensed and relaxed my muscles to heck. After the 30 minutes was up I was still a bit twitchy but definitely falling asleep...until, once again, Charlie disturbed me. He decided he was awake and spent an hour playing/trying to get comfortable. Normally this would piss me right off but I was so relaxed I almost didn't give a shit. Lesson learned: go to bed and use that programme EARLIER.
