4 Easy Ways to Make Your Home More Energy Efficient

Do you feel as though your home is not quite as energy efficient as it could be? If this is the case then you could be draining your finances more than you think. One way for you to work around this would be for you to implement the following changes so you can make a positive difference to your bills today.

Keep an Eye on the Little Things

The first thing you need to do is try and keep an eye on the little things. Small actions can add up to some big changes. It may be that you make the switch to energy-efficient lights and that you do not leave your appliances on standby. If you can invest in a water-efficient shower head then this will also help you out. If you have gas or central heating then make the effort to bleed your radiators once every year. If you do this then you are bound to see a positive difference to your home’s energy efficiency.

Insulate your Walls

It doesn’t matter whether you have solid walls or cavity walls, because if you can make the effort to fill them with wall insulation then this could be a very good way for you to retain heat in the home. Homes lose one-third of heat through the walls, but if you add cavity wall insulation then this number drastically reduces. Solid wall insulation can have an even bigger impact, so make sure that you keep that in mind. Remember that this will help your heating bills and it will also
stop your home from being as hot in summer. If you want to take things to the next level then invest in some new windows too.

Install some Solar Panels

There is no denying that getting solar panels installed is expensive. That being said, if you can afford to install them then this is one of the best and most effective ways for you to make a difference to your home. In this day and age, the average setup for solar panels is now more affordable than ever and you never know, you may be able to recoup a lot of the cost of installing them, when you sell your home. If you want to go for a cheaper upgrade then why not invest in some smart devices? Smart devices can now help you to control the temperature of your home and they are also ideal if you keep on leaving the lights on, or if you keep forgetting to turn the heating off so be mindful of that if you can.

Add some Thicker Curtains

If you want to make your home energy efficient then another thing you can do is install some thicker curtains. When you do put up thicker curtains, you will soon see that it is easier for you to trap heat within your home. It also blocks out the sun’s rays so your home doesn’t get as hot during the summer months, so make sure that you keep that in mind.

Until next time,
