The Six Body Shop Products Keeping My Hair Healthy Over Lockdown

My last hair cut was in February 2020, a month before the salons closed. I had very much grown accustomed to having an A-line bob so it genuinely sucked when I realised it was going to be quite a long time before I was going to get a hair cut again. So, I had no choice but to grow out my hair.

I started to use a lot more heat on my hair in that time, without using heat protection. I was regularly blow-drying and straightening my hair and boy, was I paying for it. It got to a point where I could literally feel how crispy my hair was and I was so shocked when I took this selfie in May! I remember frantically going over that section with the straighteners, as if that would help. It did not.

That's when my friend Gracie became a Body Shop at Home consultant! I immediately bought the Shea Butter shampoo and conditioner from her, as it's made specifically for dry, damaged hair. I also ended up getting the Shea hair butter and used it all religiously for weeks. I was applying the hair mask every time I washed my hair, which at that point was up to three times a week - I have very oily hair!

I also dramatically reduced how often I was using heat on my hair and by the end of July, my hair was looking so much healthier and happier! I'm still completely blown away by the change.

At some point I switched to the Fuji Green Tea shampoo/scrub shampoo which is best for oily hair, but continued to use the Shea mask and conditioner. I definitely found that the Fuji really helped with the oilyness and I wasn't having to wash my hair so frequently!

Once my Shea hair mask ran out, I decided to give the banana hair mask a go, which I am currently still using! I also bought the banana shampoo but that was mainly for Charlie rather than myself, but I did end up using that too.

The banana range smells just like the foamy banana sweets and it takes me back to my childhood every time I use it! I'll be honest, I haven't noticed much of a difference with my split ends using the banana, but it's slowly but surely helping my curl definition! As long as I don't let my hair dry too much before brushing, my hair gets such a lovely curl to it again which I really felt like I lost last year!

I invested in an oval bamboo hair brush and I honestly think that's really helping with the condition of my hair too! Having bamboo bristles means much less tugging at tangles and saves my scalp too!

Last but not least, I recently bought the Coconut Oil Brilliantly Nourishing Pre-Shampoo Hair Oil. I felt like the masks may have done all they could for me and it was time to try a new product! This particular product can actually be used in three ways; overnight, at least 5 minutes before a shower and as a styling product.

When it first arrived, I immediately added a tiny bit to the ends of my hair and kind of forgot about it. A couple days later, I decided to do my first overnight treatment. At 8pm I completely soaked my hair in the oil from mid-lengths to the ends, tied it in a bun and then washed it off probably around 11am the next morning. Again, I didn't notice a difference but I persevered.

Last week, I decided to use it again. I soaked my hair in it again, and left it on for two hours while I worked out. I definitely started to notice a difference then! It was looking glossier, and feeling much softer. However, the ends of my hair were still really dry! So I decided to add some more oil just to the ends to give them some more hydration. At the end of the day I checked them and they were feeling so much softer and hydrated!

I haven't trimmed my hair at all in over a year and if it wasn't for the fact that I want to add in some layers and a fringe, I almost think I could get away with not going to the hairdressers when they reopen! I'm intrigued to see whether they comment on the condition of my hair or not...

I also haven't straightened my hair for coming up to three months now!

Until next time,
Saph x

P.S. I am also a Body Shop at Home consultant! I would appreciate any requests to join my Facebook group Self Care with Sammy. I regularly run giveaways and I can give you deals you may not get from The Body Shop! Any support is greatly appreciated.
