Samhain & Ways to Celebrate

Ooh I haven't written one of these for a while! Oops! Seems only fitting that I start again with Samhain. Samhain is known as the witch's New Year. The Wheel of the Year has turned full circle and it's time to celebrate! We celebrate everything we have achieved this year, and we get to celebrate with our ancestors. Everyone knows the veil to the other world lifts at Halloween!

Samhain is a celebration of those who have passed on, and a time to honour the dead. It's the time to appreciate, remember, reflect and be compassionate.

Non-ritual ways to celebrate

Visit a graveyard or a loved ones grave
Laying offerings in the weeks leading up to Samhain, lets your loved ones know that they're welcome into your home on the night. Offerings could be flowers, pumpkins, black, gold or orange candles. Just remember to blow them out when you leave!

Wear black
Samhain is basically one big wake, so it makes sense to wear black to honour the dead.

Carve pumpkins
This was originally a Pagan tradition. They would carve spooky faces into the pumpkins and place them outside their home to ward off unwanted spirits!

Write a letter to a deceased loved one and burn it
Let them know you're thinking of them.

Have a Samhain feast with loved ones
Have a huge roast and discuss your wins from the year.

I can't wait for Samhain!

Until next time,
Saph x
